Eight Steps To Pitching A Tent

Is it your first time to go camping? The most important thing that you should learn when camping is how to pitch a tent. It's important that you learn to pitch a tent quickly because shelter is one of the basics when you go camping. This is why you should learn how to do it before actually going camping.

You can train yourself by doing it in your backyard or by doing research and bringing notes that you can follow with you on the trip. Here are a few steps that you can follow when pitching a tent.

• Choose a place – Part of the fun of camping is finding a clearing or a place where you can pitch a tent or start a camp. You will do a lot of walking and searching but what you need is a place that will not flood if it rains and one that is not so high that it gets too cold at night. So make sure you find a high level area almost like a plateau for your tent.

• Clean the area – The next thing to do is to start clearing the area of any rocks and sticks that may be lying around. The last thing you need is to be sleeping on jagged objects sticking out of the ground. Clean the area where you will be pitching your tent but do not destroy the ground by scraping the top soil off.

• Thing for your head – When you camp, there is no guarantee that you will always find a flat place to lie down on. So if you are in an area that tilts, you want to make sure that your head will be higher than your feet when you lie down. You can do this by actually lying down before you pitch your tent so that you know exactly how to position the tent.

• Clear skies – Another thing you want to avoid is pitching a tent under trees. There are all sorts of objects that can fall on your tent and ruin the material completely and this includes tree sap and pine cones. Make sure that your tent is under clear skies so that you can sleep properly while at the same time protecting the condition of your tent that you will want to use in the future.

• Use a cloth – The ground where you will pitch your tent might be wet. In this case you do not want to wait for it to dry. Hopefully, you have packed an extra cloth large enough to pitch your tent on or around. This will make sure that your tent remains dry and no moisture seeps through the bottom of it.

• Pitch the stakes – The easiest way to pitch a tent is to drive the stakes into the ground first. Then prop them up so these remain standing.

• Adjust the stakes – Next step is to position the stakes so that these are not too far apart and not too close together. It should be enough so that you can pull the tent as far as you can. Also make sure that the stakes are secure so these won't fall from a strong wind.

• The rain-fly – Lastly, you need to put on the rain-fly. Make the rain fly tightly spread as possible but not beyond its limits. Once you are done with this, you can move on to the other essentials of camping life.
