In the summer, one of the most popular things to do is to go out camping. Whether you do it alone or with family and friends, you have to make sure that you have all the essential items to make a camping trip successful. As you are packing up your bags and heading for the trails to your new camp spot for the next week or so, make sure you have a rundown of the following list to see if you have all you need.
• For shelter – When you go camping, you never know what kind of weather will hit the immediate area. It is therefore important that you have all the essential shelter and bedding items that you normally pack for a camping trip.
This will include a tent, some tarp in case that it rains or if it's too sunny, a sleeping bag, a sleeping pad, which is used to place the sleeping bag on so that you can be comfortable, and maybe a headrest if you are not packing a pillow. These are just some of the things that you will need for shelter. If you think you will be camping in a place that will be cold out at night, then you might also want to pack an extra blanket or comforter.
• For cooking – When you are out camping in the woods, you will most definitely not run into any stores where food is sold. It is therefore important that you bring your own food that will last for as long as you are out there. In fact, you may want to bring a little extra just in case of an emergency.
You will also need to bring a water cooler, a stove to cook the food on, a can opener, some utensils and your own charcoal unless you are allowed to burn some wood that may be lying around the place. You should also consider bringing other times like a folding table, some folding chairs, a table cloth, a lighter and some condiments that you know you can't live without including salt and pepper.
• For hygiene – There are no showers and bathtubs out in the great outdoors so you will have to make do with what nature has to offer like nearby streams or rivers. However, you can bring toiletries and other items such as your toothbrush, toothpaste, soap and shampoo, a shaving kit and cream, wash rags and towels. Just make sure that you are not littering and throwing stuff in the river because people might be using the water as well downstream.
• For emergencies – The next most important thing is to bring a first aid kit. This kit should include any personal medication that you need to be taking. It should also include essential items like bandages, aspirin or Tylenol, scissors, sanitary wipes and antiseptics.
These are the basic things that you should have on your list. Sit down before packing and list down all the things that you imagine you would use at a camping trip. Be practical and make sure you leave a little room for adventure.
