Five Getup Essentials For A Camping Trip

Looking overdressed or underdressed for an occasion can be embarrassing for anyone who cares about general appearance. Although going on a camping trip brings the promise of fun and adventure, you are not spared from the almost-universal human propensity to wear what is “appropriate” and what meets societal expectations.

Have you ever pictured yourself sporting the outfit of Indiana Jones, Crocodile Dundee or Lara Croft? Chances are you have, and yes, you're absolutely on the right track to choosing the getup that's fitting for your camping trip. Selecting your wardrobe and accessories is really just a matter of common sense. You'll see why in the following list:

• Headgear. No, you do not have to wear a helmet to protect your head while you're out camping. When it comes to headgear, think of protection. Save yourself from squinting and from being rained on by occasional falling leaves by putting on a visor, a baseball cap or a wide-brimmed hat. Don't just depend on a pair of sunglasses to protect your eyes.

• Hair accessories. When it comes to hair accessories, think of neatness and protection (again). If you have long hair, fasten it with a ponytail holder, or don a bandana. You don't want your hair to literally get in your face while the winds blow to and fro, and nope, you certainly don't want to whip the faces of your companion with your unkempt mane. Ouch.

• Footwear. Unless you have masochistic tendencies, camping barefoot or camping with your stilettos on is pure torture. You'll be trekking on uneven terrain and frolicking with your companions, so don't let the wrong pair of shoes spoil your fun. Wear footwear that's tailored for your comfort and protection, and consider footwear that's durable and easy to dry. There are a number of camping boots and shoe-sandals that you can choose from your favorite camping stores.

• Tops. Variety is the spice of life. Bring an assortment of tops to match your camping itinerary. Remember that you won't be doing your laundry while you're out camping, so either pack enough clothes, or pack a few that are easy to dry, in case you really want to recycle your garb. Comfortable-fitting tees are a staple. Tank tops are also a wise choice if you're expecting to engage in strenuous activities that will make you sweat profusely. Complete your tops selection with a hooded sweater or jacket to fight off the chilly night air.

• Bottoms. While shorts are good for daytime (you'll want to feel the air kiss your legs when you run, or appreciate the ease with which you can wade through and swim in water), long comfortable pants are just as important. With long pants, you enjoy added protection from insect bites, and possible cuts and grazing from rough surfaces, brambles and leaf blades that your legs will brush up against, whether you're sitting on a quiet spot to do your journal or you're scouring the campground for photo opportunities. Don't forget to bring and wear your undies! Although these “shy” bottom wear are rarely seen in photo shoots, they afford you with an unmatched sense of security, protection and preparedness.
