Buyer's Guide To Camping Tents

When you go camping, you miss having your to sleep on your warm cozy bed under the safe and sturdy roof of your home. In the great outdoors, you will have to content yourself with the little luxury and comfort that a camping tent can offer. A tent may not be much but it is as good a roof as any when you decide to sleep outdoors and under the twinkling stars of the night sky. And since the tent is your home away from home, you should take care in choosing the best one that satisfies your needs and your personal preferences.

There is no generic tent that you can be used at anytime, anywhere and by anyone. You will find during your tent shopping that there are a variety and a large selection of tents available in the camping stores. They come in an assortment of sizes, shapes and are further classified to different models. There are single tents and tents with multi-cabins that can accommodate a whole family. Yes, there are a lot of choices when it comes to tents, enough to confuse any camper. There are, however three very important questions that you need to answer when deciding which tent to buy.

* How strong is your tent? Just like in the story of the three little pigs, you will need a sturdy and a durable tent that can withstand the wind and all the other elements of the outdoors so that it will not be blown down to leave you homeless and unprotected. The things to look for are tent poles that are heavy and hard-wearing to endure even the strongest winds and rain showers. Seams that are double sewn are best. Check if the grommets are securely fastened and ensure that your zippers are tough and durable.

* Does your tent offer enough space? Of course, you would want to be comfortable especially if you want to get a good night's sleep. And that means having adequate space to lie down and move around in. You would not want to be cramped and curled up all throughout the night. The tent should have enough ventilation so fresh air can freely pass through. Your tent should not only be able to house you but also all your other gear as well, particularly your clothes, your first aid kit and perhaps some food supplies. Uninvited animals could visit your camp and take home your clothes as a souvenir while you are sleeping.

* Will your tent give you enough protection? It cannot be stressed enough that when you are camping the tent is your first refuge against the different elements existing in the outdoors. There is the risk of heat stroke if you stay too much under the sun, cold and fever from a rainstorm, flies and mosquitoes that are buzzing all around particularly in the evenings and perhaps an unexpected bear guest. Aside from strong poles, the material making up the tent should be of high quality so as not to easily tear and rip.
